Huawei aims to have Google apps alternatives by end of year

Huawei has been greatly influenced and somewhat affected by the US ban and its restrictions. The ban has barred new Huawei and Honor devices from pre-installing apps that many people use like Maps, Google Drive, and Gmail.

However, the company does not show any sign of weakness. The ban paved the way for the company to find their own alternatives, making it a much more powerful and independent company than it was before.

According to a new report from the Economic Times, recently Huawei has been engaging heavily with Indian developers to create Huawei-Alternatives to Google’s most popular apps – HMS.

Moreover, Charles Peng, CEO of Huawei and Honor India told ET “We have our own HMS and are trying to build a mobile ecosystem. Most of the key apps such as navigation, payments, gaming and messaging will be ready by December end” which shows a sign of confidence rather than weakness. Therefore, Huawei would be ending this year with the big debut of its HMS ecosystem.

Interestingly, The Huawei-backed Honor brand is currently in deep conversation with developers of India’s top 150 apps to get them on Huawei’s App Gallery, which is the alternative to Google Play Store.

We all know that this move is necessary. However, one can’t deny the fact that it is courageous too. Creating alternatives for GMS is not a cup of tea for Huawei or any other company.

After all, Google has been getting all the benefits of a monopoly with its GMS ecosystem. Google’s portfolio is so vast, that to compete, Huawei is required to create alternatives for Google Maps, Gmail, YouTube, Google Pay, Play Store, and Play Games.

Reportedly, the company offers a $1 billion fund to help developers integrating their apps with HMS. Hopefully, the company will be able to create a good and exciting alternative to Google Apps through its very own HMS.
